From local reporting to foreign correspondent, to weekly Foreign Affairs programme, to diplomatic missions, Derek has gained a clear understanding of conflicting demands on individuals, whether trying to survive under a dictatorship, or political leaders needing solutions for a changing world.
Passionate about clear, responsible communication as the foundation of democracy and understanding, Derek conducts fact-finding missions, gives courses in conflict resolution, election-coverage, and crisis-communications. He has helped resolve problems in several countries including Cambodia, South Africa, Côte d’Ivoire, Haiti, Kenya, Uganda, and Ethiopia to name but a few.
Derek enjoys spending time with friends, swimming, and reading. He also enjoys a juicy medium-rare steak with a fine dry wine.
